The literary journal of Amherst Writers & Artists is committed to finding exceptional work by new as well as established writers. We have a primary commitment to publishing work that deals with issues of class, race, and other forms of difference. Peregrine reflects the spirit of AWA – artistic excellence with a social conscience.
Peregrine is 40+ pages, 6×9, professionally printed, perfect bound with a glossy cover. Its design owes a large debt to Barbara Werden and its cover art is by Barry Moser. Published annually, Peregrine features poetry and short fiction.
If you would like to order a copy of Peregrine, our latest issues are available for order online. Past issues include the winners and honorable mentions in the annual Pat Schneider Poetry Contest sponsored by AWA Press.

Peregrine has provided a forum for national and international writers since 1983 and is committed to finding exceptional work by both emerging and established writers. We seek work that is unpretentious, memorable, and that reflects diversity of voice. We accept only original and unpublished poetry and short stories. Electronic submissions only. No work for or by children. Peregrine, published by Amherst Writers & Artists Press, offers payment at this time in the form of two contributors copies. Decisions are made by the editorsall published writersafter all submissions have arrived, so our response time may be slower than that of other literary journals. We welcome simultaneous submissions.
Poetry: 3 single-spaced one-page poems. We seek poems that inform and surprise us. We appreciate fresh and specific imagery and layered metaphors, but not excessive verbiage, abstractions, or clichés. We will not consider inspirational poetry, greeting-card verse, religious tirades, or nostalgia.
Prose: Very short fiction, typed and double-spaced, 750 words max (include word count on first page); shorter stories have a better chance.
To submit, send an email to email@example.com with a brief cover letter in the body and one file (.docx, .doc, or .rtf) of the work you are offering as an attachment.
SUBMISSIONS ARE CLOSED, WILL REOPEN MARCH – MAY, 2017
